Non-digital teaching aids

This are teaching tools that do not have anything to do with electronics or any resource that process data, infact they do not use technology. One can call them traditional teaching aids.

Two non-digital media that can be used in Junior Primary education

1.Black board or chalkboard

A black board  is a wonderful teaching tool that is formal than others and it is useful in all subjects ,in fact it is flexible.

Importance of blackboard

-Blackboard is important as it is an inexpensive teaching aid due to the fact that the board and chalks that are used to write with are cheaper.
-It is easily adaptable to everyone whether it is the teacher or learners.
-Junior Primary learners prefer presentation with writing being done and that will obviously take place on the chalkboard or black board.
-According to Benstein (2016) The chalkboard has been the most used teaching aid and it makes learners believe that they are being taught and enjoy school.

How we will use the blackboard in the classroom

As a junior primary teacher before starting the lesson writing the date first at the top left corner of the board will be the best thing to do.
Furthermore the chalkboard has to be divided into two parts, one side is for writing where there will be lines and the other side will be for drawings and pasting of posters when teaching.
Visual reinforcement like diagrams can be displayed on the board to keep learners attention.
When writing talking to learners and turning frequently to face them attract your attention.
Get students also to read what you are writing on the board.

Benefits of a blackboard to the subject of choice

Teaching on a board allow learners to keep pace with the teacher and not depending on other aids.
It facilitates learning and improves junior primary learners reading skills.
For instance in Mathematics, teaching on the board allow learners to participate  and a teacher can ask learners questions and let them write their answers on the board to display their understand  on a certain concept.
In addition learning on a chalkboard increase learners memory because seeing what is being taught is more memorable than just hearing it.

2.Text book

This is an essential teaching aid as it guides teaching and learning of different subjects in school.

Importance of a text book in Junior primary school

A textbook can be helpful to both teachers and learners as it supplements teachers knowledge.
It may help learners to organise their learning.
A textbook provides all necessary information in detail.
AK van den Ham stated that a textbook enable learners to get the face of the topic to be discussed or covered and what they are expected to know (learning outcomes).

How a textbook should be used

Translating key words to the learners is the best method of teaching with a textbook.
Tell learners to take note or highlight important aspects while you are reading and explaining for them.
Learners should always note down important information and also build vocabulary.
While teaching tell learners to follow in the textbook always.
Allowing learners to seat and read in pairs and let them discuss what they read will be helpful rather than reading individually.

Benefits of a textbook

The textbook plays a vital role in the teaching and learning process. For example in Mathematics a textbook provide adequate opportunities and motivate learners to solve problems and learn new knowledge.
